Product Description
Anubias plants are a hardy plant that is an aquarium favorite among many hobbyists. This rosette plant may reach up to 2-3 inches in length and has beautiful dark green leaves in low, handsome clumps. It usually has diagonal lines running from the center vein to the leaf perimeter. Anubias have tall, variable foliage that is usually pointed to ovate. It prefers moderate lighting, an alkalinity of 3 – 8 dKH, and a pH of 6.0 – 7.5. Because it grows well from cuttings, you can usually reproduce it easily. Under correct water conditions, the Anubias nana propagates by side shoots on the rhizome, causing rhizome division. This plant is shipped attached to a piece of cured driftwood. We recommend rinsing the driftwood and plant before adding to a display aquarium. Aquascaping – Aquarium Ideas from ZooBotanica 2012, part 8

Aquariums arranged during the live aquascaping contest, organized at ZooBotanica 2012 fair held on 14-16 September 2012 in Wrocław, Poland. Altogether 16 aquascapers took part in the contest, and 16 nanoaquariums were arranged. There were both planted aquariums and biotope aquariums, some of them really good. The first place was a planted aquarium with rare aquarium plant Bucephalandra, which belongs to the Araceae family. The second place was a composition based on fragments of driftwood, overgrown with phoenix moss and mini pellia. The third place was a layout arranged rather as a “landscape” than an aquascape – two hills, separated by a clear path made of fine sand, and a lonely tree, made of fragment of driftwood. Aquatic plants used in this composition were mostly Eleocharis and Utricularia. As for other aquariums, there was a very nice biotope aquarium, imitating a stream somewhere in South Eastern Asia. The substrate was fine bright sand, there were numerous colorful pebbles on the bottom, lots of driftwood and very nice Microsorum plants. This aquarium was stocked with Stiphodon gobies. Another very original composition was actually not an aquascape, but rather a protest against all forms of kitsch in the fishkeeping hobby. There was a fishbowl put inside the nanoaquarium, with plastic plant and empty sardines can, with the inscription “Fishbowl, Rest in Peace”. Such exhibit should be located in every pet shop, to remind the customers and the sellers what should be avoided in the fishkeeping hobby 🙂

These Natural Habitat Rocks we have found to be an excellent choice for basking rocks, as well as for building habitat rock formations for various reptiles, amphibians and turtles. As a basking rock, there’s enough natural porosity that although the rock gets warm accumulating heat, it doesn’t get too hot; as glazed ceramic tile or slate would. As an aesthetic element in the habitat, they offer a truly natural accessory piece which is also manageable to keep clean. Natural rock also provides a means for self-grooming of reptile claws. These are real rocks (not cast resin or coated Styrofoam) and each one is unique. Grouped by general size (medium or large) and color (Blue Green, Deep Maroon, Painted Desert, Uluru Red and Watarrka Rose). Hand selected to typically have at least one side basically flat. The medium sizes about 6″ x 8″ and large sizes about 7-1/4″ x 12-5/8″. We scrub the Natural Habitat Rocks that we use periodically in hot water, with a brush reserved for that purpose, followed by chlorhexidine.
