Making D.I.Y Aquarium Safe Driftwood Part – 2

May 20, 2018 by admin

Hey guys! So I made a video on how to clean rocks for an aquarium so I decided why not do one for driftwood!
One thing to keep in mind when cleaning your driftwood is that if it’s not properly cleanesed then you might get tanents in your tanks.

This is the safest method for making rocks you find in the wild aquarium safe. Using pieces you find in your environment can allow you to completely customize your piece of nature.

It’s a good practice to sterilize anything that may be added to your aquarium to prevent contamination.

I have done this before and had zero issues with my wood or fish. Please just make sure you know the kind of wood.

* I am not responsible for any issues you encounter trying this method*.

Curing Driftwood? Soak for Aquarium?

May 19, 2018 by admin

http://amzn.to/2zqnJmn – Maybe you also want to check out fake pieces of wood. Here is a large piece made by Marina that is a top seller.

One of the most common methods to clean a piece of driftwood is to soak it in a bucket of water for a couple of weeks. This way a lot of the parasites and other things that can be harmful to your aquarium water will be cleaned. Another very good method is to boil sections of the driftwood inside of a pot of water. If you can find a way to boil your piece of driftwood inside of water that is going to be much better because it really does the job very fast.

Hey literally just did a water change and am going through the same thing. I’m limiting my lights to 6 hours a day now and using a sponge filter and it’s kinda helping. I’m also making sure to clean the algae off the tank so it doesn’t build. I’m thinking about getting some sort of pleco or something but not sure how they work with goldfish 🤔

Uhm I am I was just asking why my water was green and no amount of me draining and refilling the tank works so far so thanks for the rude answer

Aspen Knudsen it stays pretty clear water but my only problem was the water being green but I found from another person that it was a algae bloom which isn’t necessarily bad for them and they’ve been doing fine with the 150 gallon waterfall filter I have for them

your tank looks smaller then a 100 gallon and that filter type sucks, the sound it makes is nice but it’s not made for the heavy bioload of 5 goldfish and a turtle

People will say use a canister filter but don’t!!! One day I came home to 45 gallons of my 55 gallon on the floor and it was still pumping out water. It looks like you have an internal filter yes?

lol ok I thought that was the 40, read that wrong. Once you move the turtle you shouldn’t have that problem as goldfish are poop monsters and turtles seem to be the same way.

It’s gotta be your bioload then with the Goldie’s and turtle. For such beautiful creatures…..they nasty. Lol I just shared a link for some cheap easy diy sponge filters. I know solid gold on YouTube swears by sponge filters for her Goldie’s. They’re easy to clean and don’t require being totally broken down to do so. Hope that helps!

What water conditioner can I get that does NOT detoxify heavy metals? Treating with cupramine and want to do a small water change but I don’t want to treat and leave full buckets out for 48hrs. What can i get that strictly removes chlorine and cloramine?

Well I have added water to it and still itching. I will try sticking my finger in it, although I’m not familiar with the anatomy of a filter lol

this is how i will die. or perhaps ill trip over my cat, fall into my tank, and THEN be electrocuted.

You can try priming it by dumping cups of tank water in it, but depending on how low your water level is it might not work.

Make sure it’s full of water and jiggle the impeller assembly. You might have to stick your finger down there and get the impeller spinning

Ugh I knew it was a dumb idea but it was a quick reaction and I couldn’t stop it. The water in my tank was evaporated to a low level and because I ran out of conditioner I couldn’t refill it. I had to move my heater down more into the tank so it would not break and my dumbass knocks the complete light housing into my tank… I tried to catch it and ended up getting electrocuted 🤦 I have one teeny tiny baby swordtail in my tank and by some miracle that little ass kicker is still alive! However now one of my hob filters is on but not pumping out water. How do I fix it?

Make a Driftwood Centerpiece

May 19, 2018 by admin

It’s been one year since I arrived in New Zealand. One year since I last hugged my mother and father.

Because I crossed the international date line early in the morning on oct 17th last year, that day was only a few hours long. The shortest day ever for me then disappeared forever.

This year we went out together and enjoyed our day out. I found a few pieces of driftwood and decided to make one into a table centerpiece.

It represents Jills family, my family and our family. It also represents Jill, Ned and I.

Yes it seems ‘down’ but that is only because we miss our loved ones back home but everyone is doing well as can be. I’ll be more uplifting next week 🙂

Still, please consider subscribing, liking and commenting.

Succulents & driftwood are a winning combo, just like peanut butter and jelly. You can find driftwood in a myriad of odd shapes & sizes, add succulents to it & you’ll get a stunning & fun piece of living art.

When I was living in Santa Barbara, I collected shells & rocks from the beach to use as ground cover in my garden. Then, my attention turned to driftwood which I used for my various crafting projects – you’ll see some of them in the post.

This post & video is a compilation of some of the most fun succulents & driftwood displays I’ve found around during nursery visits as well as some I’ve created.
