Java Moss – Vesicularia dubyana – Live aquarium plant

Java Moss – Vesicularia dubyana – Live aquarium plant

Product Description
Java Moss – Vesicularia Dubyana Location: Southeast Asia PH: 5.8 – 7.5 Temperature: 24-28 C Water Hardness: 2 – 15dh Size: 5×5 cm Loc. In Aquarium: Foreground Lighting Requirements: low to high Difficulty: Easy Vesicularia Dubyana is another very popular and undemanding aquarium moss. Good beginner plant, it can be cultivated in almost any kind of water. Also known as Java Moss, this plant has a deep green color with tiny leaves. Java Moss is intensively branched with lots of tiny stems surrounded by rhizoids and leaves. The rhizoids are used by the moss to attach itself to substrates. Vesicularia Dubyana do not have any role in nutrient absorption. Because it has not roots, Vesicularia Dubyana should not be buried in gravel. Cultivation of this plant should be done by spreading a thin layer of Java Moss on top of a solid substrate as a rock or a piece of root. This can be done by attaching it to the substrate with a thin fishing line or a cotton thread. Although it does not require strong lighting, it should be spread equally so every stems have access to the light. After a few months, it will anchor itself to its substrate and the fishing line could be removed. Some hobbyists have experienced good success in letting Java Moss float at the surface of the aquarium or in stapling it to a piece of driftwood. Almost any substrate can be used for Java Moss to attach to (even the aquarium glass!). This plant can be grown submerged or emersed. In the wild, Vesicularia Dubyana grows on the trees and stones of the very humid region of Southeast Asia.

Aquatic Arts 1 X-Large Piece of Tiger Wood Natural Aquarium Driftwood, 14-18″

Aquatic Arts 1 X-Large Piece of Tiger Wood Natural Aquarium Driftwood, 14-18″

Product Description
Driftwood is an essential component for decorating a naturalistic aquarium. Tiger Wood Driftwood is an excellent choice for aquascaping. This type of driftwood is highly variable, but it always has a very complex appearance. While many retailers sell artificial pieces of simulated driftwood, our pieces are REAL Tiger Wood! We are pleased to be able to offer pieces of all sizes to fit the smallest to largest aquariums. In addition to providing dramatic, natural scenery in the aquarium, driftwood plays in an important role in the wellbeing of any aquatic environment. It provides shelter for aquarium animals and it can serve as an anchor for plants such as Java Fern, Anubias, and Java Moss or other mosses. Each Tiger Wood Driftwood piece is unique and will make an attractive addition to any freshwater aquarium! All of our aquarium driftwoods and rocks are treated for aquarium use after simple rinsing. Some driftwoods can initially release tannins in the water, although Tiger Wood is among the least likely to do this and it will not discolor aquarium water. Tannins are not necessarily harmful to aquarium plants and animals, but they will lower the pH of aquarium water. To reduce the release of tannins, simply boil the driftwood for a few minutes (or longer for larger pieces). If desired, driftwood can be boiled repeatedly until the boiling water does not tan at all in order to completely remove tannins before aquarium use. Otherwise, this driftwood will stop releasing tannins over time with regular aquarium water changes and maintenance. Tiger Wood is relatively dense and will sink within a few days or less.

Price: $97.75

  • Each piece of driftwood has a highly unique and complex appearance
  • You will receive a piece similar to these images which display various shapes this wood can take
  • This driftwood is 100 percent real and a great way to add natural beauty to any freshwater aquarium
  • Provides shelter for aquarium animals, making them feel safer and more comfortable in your aquarium
  • Ready for aquarium use after a simple rinsing; an optional boiling may help it sink more quickly

Still Life
October Scavenger Challenge: 25) This month’s Education Center topic is Simplicity. First, you must find a piece of old wood (driftwood, for example). Display it on a dark background with no other obvious visual background element. You may use some small accents (a flower, a stone, etc.) to create interest, but attempt to create a still life with the style and elegance seen in Japanese art.

Flowers and driftwood
Don’t ask me what the flowers are, I have no idea. I think someone gave them to me as a cutting and it’s managed to survive, so that’s all that’s important. Many years ago, I had plans for turning that piece of driftwood into a stand for a coffee table.. even had it sandblasted in preparation, but never quite got round to it… so here it sits

Aquatic Arts 1 Small Piece of Grape Vine Wood Natural Aquarium Driftwood, 6-8″

October 24, 2018 by admin

Aquatic Arts 1 Small Piece of Grape Vine Wood Natural Aquarium Driftwood, 6-8″

Product Description
Grape Vine Wood is a very popular driftwood for terrariums and bird enclosures. This wood has been stripped of its bark and is immediately ready for use with terrestrial animals such as birds, reptiles, and hermit crabs. Grape Vine Wood is an excellent choice for an attractive decoration and it also provides essential cover for animals. Each piece is highly unique but always looks great! We do not recommend using Grape Vine Wood in aquariums. While we have seen some reports of people using this wood under water, we must stress that it releases an excessive amount of tannins very quickly, even after being boiled extensively. This wood also will not sink for many days or weeks and, compared to most other driftwoods, it rots rather quickly. For best results, Grape Vine Wood should only be used in the land portion of animal enclosures.

Price: $13.60

  • You will receive a piece similar to these images which display various shapes this wood can take
  • Each piece is highly unique but we only send hand picked pieces that look great
  • We do not recommend using Grape Vine Wood under water in aquariums

  • This driftwood is 100 percent real and a great way to add natural beauty to any terrarium
