Good morning and welcome to our worship service. As we gather together to worship God in this place, let us begin by reflecting on Psalm 89:15. It says, “Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence.” How amazing it is to know that we have the privilege to gather here today and worship our Creator. Let the joyful call to worship resonate in our hearts as we begin this service.

Readings from John 1:35-42 and Luke 5:1-11
Now, let us turn our attention to the Word of God. We have two readings today that focus on the call of Peter to follow Jesus. The first reading is from John 1:35-42, and the second reading is from Luke 5:1-11.
In John 1:35-42, we see how Andrew, one of the disciples of John the Baptist, followed Jesus after hearing John proclaim Him as the Lamb of God. Andrew then brings his brother Simon (Peter) to Jesus, and Jesus gives Simon the name Peter, which means “rock.”
In Luke 5:1-11, we witness the miraculous catch of fish and Jesus’ call to Peter and his companions to become fishers of people. Peter, overwhelmed by the catch and his own unworthiness, falls at Jesus’ knees, but Jesus reassures him and encourages him to not be afraid.
These readings remind us of the importance of responding to Jesus’ call and following Him wholeheartedly. Let us reflect on the significance of Peter’s journey and how it relates to our own lives.
Focus on the Call of Peter to Follow Jesus
Peter’s journey with Jesus serves as an inspiration and a lesson for us all. His faith was not always steady; it resembled driftwood, with ups and downs. But Jesus saw something in Peter, something that made Him believe in him, and He called Peter to follow Him.
Jesus did not choose the most qualified or the most religious person to be His disciple. He chose Peter, a simple fisherman with a flawed faith. And through their time together, Jesus transformed Peter into a leader and one of the pillars of the early Christian church.
Peter’s story reminds us that God can use us despite our flaws and doubts. He sees our potential and calls us to follow Him, just as He called Peter. We may stumble along the way, but God’s grace is always there to pick us up and guide us.

Trusting in God doesn’t mean that everything will be smooth sailing. It means acknowledging that God is in control and that He will guide us through any storm we may face. When we put our trust in God, we can find peace and strength, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.
Let us remember the words of Psalm 56:3, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” When fear creeps into our hearts, let us turn to God and place our trust in Him, knowing that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Offering of Prayers for the Church, the World, and Personal Concerns
Now, let us take a moment to offer our prayers to God. We will lift up the needs of the church, the world, and our personal concerns. Let us come before God with open hearts and trust that He hears our prayers.
Let us pray for the church, both locally and globally, that it may be a beacon of hope and love in the world. May it be a place of transformation and a source of comfort for all who seek God.
Let us pray for the world, particularly during these challenging times. We pray for those affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and pandemics. May God’s healing and peace be upon them.
Lastly, let us bring our personal concerns before God. Whether it be health, relationships, or any other area of our lives, let us trust that God sees and cares for each one of us individually. Let us lay our burdens at His feet and find strength and guidance in His presence.
